Gambling Regulations in Canada in 2019 While, for most people, gambling is legitimate entertainment or an engaging hobby, there are others who are against all kinds of gambling. Because of this, gambling laws have been somewhat contentious. Some countries have outlawed it entirely while others have been merely slow to accept it. Canada’s gambling regulations have always been relatively strict and land based activities are very closely regulated. Each Province has its own laws and there are several brick and mortar casinos that are government approved. When it comes to online and mobile casinos, the laws are a little more complex. Gambling in one form or another is permitted everywhere across Canada, but regulated by—and thus differs in—each of the country's 10 provinces and three territories. Casinos, racetracks, lotteries, and other gaming organizations all must follow the laws as laid out by their governing province or territory. The popularity of gambling as a form of entertainment has dramatically increased over time. While most gambling is harmless, some people do become “hooked” on it just as some people become dependent on alcohol. Similarly, internet gaming is played using personal devices and computers through the Internet. The term “gaming” originated as a synonym for “gambling”, although most electronic games do not involve gambling in the traditional sense.
Gambling is not a career or a way to get rich quick. It is also not a way to escape your troubles. It is a form of entertainment that is meant to be fun. Leave your credit cards at home and remember, casinos and online gambling sites are in the business of making money. If you decide to gamble, remember to stay within your limits and gamble safe!
